Description

Golf is a coed varsity sport played in the fall. Our home course is Shawnee Inn and Golf Resort which has 27 holes, a driving range, and a nine hole chipping range. Honesty, proper dress and etiquette are strongly emphasized and fostered.

Intramurals

Intramurals are held in the late fall, winter, spring, and summer at very little or no cost. Intramural dates and times will be announced.  Golfers interested should sign up with Coach Pete Sobrinski at the junior high or Coach Matt Sobrinski at the high school.   Students in 8th through 11th grade are welcome to participate. While no prior experience is necessary to participate, it is an advantage.

What I should Know About the Golf Season

What is the time commitment during the golf season?
We practice and/or play matches Monday through Friday beginning Monday, August 16 through the first or second week in October.

Who plays the matches?
The top eight golfers compete in the matches.  Only the top six players’ scores will count in the matches.  The two extra players’ scores will not count in the match. These two players compete for experience.

Who plays the home matches?
At home matches, all members of the golf team attend.  Still only the top 8 players compete against the other team.  Typically, this means that the entire team will get out of school about 1:00. Therefore, golfers should try to  schedule less important classes toward the end of the day.

What should the “extra” players do when the team has away matches?

Only the top 8 players attend away matches. When the team has an away match, the rest of the players are permitted and encouraged to practice and/or play at Shawnee. It is not mandatory, since you will have to provide your own transportation.
