What I should Know About the Golf Team

Transportation: How will golfers get to Shawnee and back?
Before the school year begins, players are responsible for their own transportation to and from Shawnee for practices and home matches.  However, bus transportation will be provided for away matches. (Only 8 players go to away matches.)  On days of away matches, the remaining extra golfers will need to provide their own transportation to practice at Shawnee.  My brother will coach them.

After the school year begins, the school provides the team with a bus immediately after school every day to and from Shawnee.  Immediately after school, a bus will pick up the freshmen golfers at the junior high, and they will be bussed to the high school.  Then they will join the sophomore, junior, and senior golfers and ride to and from practice. Golfers are to be picked up at the high school after practices and matches, not at the course.

Club Storage: How will golfers get their clubs to school, and where will they store them?
At the JH- Golfers should bring them by car, not by bus.  Put them quietly and neatly in the closet in Room E522.  If you have clubs dropped off during the day, ask the office to call my room.

At the HS- Golfers need to store their clubs in a closet near the weight room.

Dress Code: What should golfers wear to practice/matches/school?

Our properly worn uniform consists of:
1.   White team shirt with maroon panels fully tucked. (Plain white collared golf shirts are acceptable at practice.)
2.   Maroon Stroudsburg golf hat worn forward in a traditional manner.
3.   Golf pants or golf shorts.  No jeans, cargo pants, cargo shorts, or sweats.
4.   No jewelry.
5.   Jackets: Returning players may only wear our black, MVC championship jackets.  Players without a championship jacket are encouraged to wear a black jacket.

Note-All golf team members are allowed to wear our team shirts to school only on match days.

Postponements: How will golfers know if golf is postponed on rainy days?

At the J.H.-students should listen to the announcements and look for a written message in my room E517.
At the H.S.-students should listen to the announcements and/or ask my brother in room A106.
All players should check their e-mail and cell phones for text messages.

What is the time commitment during the golf season?

We practice and/or play matches Monday through Friday beginning the second week of August through the first week in October.  (Saturday can be a make up day.)

Participation: How do golfers know if they will participate in practice or matches?

Golfers need to check their e-mails and cell phones daily to see who will be golfing the following day/s.

Who will play in the matches, and how is the winner determined?

Eight golfers will compete in all of the matches.  Players may vary..  The six best scores will count and will be added together and compared to the other teams' total to determine the winner. Golfers need to check their e-mails and cell phones daily to see who will be golfing the following day/s.

At home matches, a limited number of extra members of the golf team may attend.  The number of extra golfers who attend will vary as well as the golfers chosen.  Golfers need to check their e-mails and cell phones daily to see who will be golfing the following day/s.

At away matches, only the top eight golfers will travel and compete. Golfers need to check their e-mails and cell phones daily to see who will be golfing the following day/s.

What should the extra players do when the team has away matches?

When we have away matches, extra players are strongly encouraged to practice at Shawnee. My brother will supervise these practices.  Extra players will need to provide their own transportation on these days.

Intramurals

Intramurals are held in the late fall, spring, and summer at no cost.  They are held at Shawnee or the junior high school gym.  Intramural dates and times will be announced.  Golfers interested should sign up with Pete Sobrinski at the junior high or Matt Sobrinski at the high school.  While no prior experience is necessary to participate, it is an advantage.  Students in 8th grade are welcome to participate.
